For this month’s episode, Signal Snowboards’ Founder Dave Lee leaves the factory to travel across the sea to an Italian glass factory to create a handmade glass snowboard—the most delicate build to date! The glass snowboard is cut, pressed, tempered, and ever so carefully transported to the slopes. Signal Snowboards Italian team rider Giorgio “Iannino” Morell takes it for the all important test ride at Abetone ski resort in Tuscany. Moiré

Moiré is an enquiry into material and process. My interest lies in where craft processes lie in contemporary design. In this project I have subverted one of the oldest crafts in existence, the coiling of clay, by automating the process using an extruding machine. Discarded Wood-Shavings chair

“It’s no surprise to learn that hardwood furniture factories aren’t the most sustainable of operations. But it is a shock to hear just how wasteful. According to two students at London’s Royal College of Art, as much as 80% of the timber used in the average factory ends up in the trash, in the form of wood chips and shavings. So for every chair produced, nearly the same amount of wood ends up discarded. Marjan van Aubel and Jamie Shaw see no reason for the waste. As part of a group…
